Youth Ministry
Facilitator: Liesl Ott• Phone: 858.653.3591 • Email: liesl@stgg.org

A vibrant ministry for High School age students that focuses on their spiritual and social needs and as a community connects them to each other and to the larger parish community.

Mission and Purpose
Primarily for High School students, the Youth Ministry’s Mission is to create a safe, honest and authentic community where people come by choice in an effort to discover Christ for themselves. The Youth Ministry attempts to realize this mission through a creative and inclusive Youth Group, a formative Confirmation program and through a spirit filled Youth Led Mass.

Youth Group
Youth Group meets on Tuesday evenings from 6– 9p.m.  We have fun, play games, sing songs, build community and connect everyday living to God’s plan for our lives.  Nights out, day trips, retreats, conferences and service days are scheduled throughout the year. The Youth Group is inclusive in nature in the sense that everyone is invited regardless of belief or faith background.

Confirmation
Confirmation preparation is a two-year program. Each year consists of  a once a month class, active involvement in the youth group and parish community, service projects, participation in retreats and a desire to grow in understanding of one’s own faith. Registration begins in June and ends August.

Youth Led Mass
The Youth Led Mass is every Sunday at 5:00 p.m.  It is “youth led” in the sense that students are involved as ushers, Eucharistic ministers, lectors, and music ministers. The Youth Led Mass is the central focus of the Youth Ministry as it incorporates every aspect of the youth community with the parish community at large.

Ushers
Facilitator: Barbara Noeremberg • Phone: 858-449-0921

First impressions very often are lasting impressions. Ushers are ministers of hospitality that initiate the welcoming atmosphere of the community and the community's openness to extent the message of God's love to all.

Mission and Purpose
Ushering at Mass is a way of making Christ present in the Liturgy. Ushers help build up the church and create a spirit of welcome and a sense of belonging. It begins with a deep commitment to Christ and to his Church. Strangers are to be put at ease, visitors are to be welcomed, people with special needs or disabilities need to experience the care of the community.

Skills Needed
Warmth, friendliness and openness to hospitality are essential to this ministry. Always making your first word a word of welcome is important.

Training Required
Training is provided. Each Mass has a variety of responsibilities that may be different from other Masses. Ushers are to remember that they too are celebrating the Liturgy and despite their duties, must make every effort to participate fully in the responses, listen to the Word and to sing at the Mass.
