Deacon Doug Pingel

Deacon Doug was born in 1946 and raised on a crop and livestock farm in the center part of Iowa. After graduating from Iowa State University, he served in the Army during the Viet Nam period. It was while stationed in Japan that he met his wife, Judy, an Army nurse.

During the first 20 years of marriage, Doug worked for the US Dept. of Agriculture in a wide range of rural development activities in Northern CA. Following that, Doug lived 25 year in Visalia, CA while working for Self-Help Enterprises, a non-profit development corporation serving the housing needs of lower income working families, primarily farm worker families, in the San Juaquin Valley of CA.

Deacon Doug and Judy had four children who now live in Sacramento, San Francisco, Victorville and San Diego. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Judy passed away in late 2008. Currently Deacon Doug has seven grandchildren. He retired four years ago and recently moved to Scripps Ranch to be closer to family.

Deacon Doug was ordained in the Diocese of Fresno in January 2007. He served as Deacon at the Good Shepherd Catholic Parish in Visalia since that time in a wide area of deaconate roles.

He is pleased to be at Saint Gregory the Great Parish and looks forward to serving the parish community.
