“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink…Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.”
Matthew 25: 35, 40

Each year students and parishioners are asked to donate part of their Halloween candy (“Treasure”) which is used for the Christmas distribution at the Casa de los Pobres (House of the Poor) in Tijuana, Mexico.  Toothbrushes and toothpaste are also greatly appreciated!

The Sisters of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Queen of Peace coordinate an annual Christmas distribution where 1,500 impoverished families receive a chicken, rice, beans, canned vegetables and fruit, and a bag of candy to make the festivities a little sweeter.  Families also receive blankets, jackets, shoes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and toys for the children.  Please leave candy donations in the school or church office for pickup between November 5-16, 2023.

The candy collection is coordinated by Oma Nwaogwugwu, President of the Notre Dame Alumni Club of San Diego, and Caroline Kelner, volunteer board member of the Casa de los Pobres USA.

Thank you!

Spanish Christmas Cards

Optional idea: If students &/or parishioners would like to practice their Spanish and creative artwork skills, we would like to put Christmas greetings inside the Ziploc bags of candy. Any size greeting will be wonderful, they just need to fit, or be folded to fit, into 7-inch x 7-inch Quart-Size Freezer Ziploc bags.

Other Ways You Can Help

Optional idea: If students &/or parishioners would like to bag their donations in Freezer Quart-Size, Ziploc bags, it would be very helpful. Freezer Quart-Size Ziploc bags MUST be used. Other types of bags are not sturdy enough during transport and distribution. Please keep gum, ugly candy (eyeballs, etc.), and food items (granola bars, raisins, pretzels, etc.) separate from the Christmas candy bags. Please box these other food items as the Sisters need all food donations. Throw away anything you wouldn’t eat such as unwrapped candy, Valentine & Easter candy, etc. Please box toy items and keep them separate from the Christmas candy bags. Thank you!

If you would like to help sort and bag the candy on November 19th, click on the link for more information: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0C49A4A822A3FB6-2023#/ or
